Dailymotion doesn't have a built-in download button. The only official way to get a file is through Dailymotion's partner program, which requires an account and approval. For everyone else, SaveThat converts any public Dailymotion video to an MP4 you can keep on your device.
Why Dailymotion has no download option
Most video platforms don't offer downloads to anonymous users. They want you streaming on their platform, seeing their ads, driving their engagement numbers. Dailymotion is no different. A download button would let people take content off the platform permanently, which works against their ad-based business model.
Some content on Dailymotion was posted specifically because it got removed elsewhere, which makes preservation more urgent. A news clip, a sports highlight, a regional broadcast segment. These are the kinds of things that disappear without warning. Saving a local copy is the only reliable way to keep them.
How to convert a Dailymotion video to MP4
Step 1: Copy the Dailymotion URL
Go to the video on Dailymotion. Copy the URL from your browser address bar. It looks like dailymotion.com/video/x8l1g7s. You can also click Share on the video and copy the link from there.
Step 2: Paste into SaveThat
Go to the Dailymotion downloader and paste the link.
Step 3: Download the MP4
Tap the download link when it appears. The video saves as an MP4 at the best quality available for that upload. On iPhone it lands in Files, on Android in your Downloads folder.
After Y2Mate shut down
Y2Mate was one of the most widely used tools for Dailymotion downloads. When it went offline in October 2025, a large share of Dailymotion download traffic had nowhere to go. The tools that filled the gap are mostly either ad-heavy redirect farms or scripts that break every few weeks when Dailymotion updates its CDN.
SaveThat uses the same infrastructure as our SoundCloud and Vimeo downloaders. It's maintained server-side, so it doesn't break when Dailymotion makes changes. Paste the URL and it works.
What works and what doesn't
Public Dailymotion videos work. Private and partner-only content does not, as that content requires an authenticated Dailymotion session that SaveThat doesn't have. Some videos are also geo-restricted by the uploader, visible only in certain countries. If a video is region-locked in your location, it won't be accessible.
