SoundCloud's free tier has no offline listening. You stream tracks online or you don't listen at all. SaveThat converts any public SoundCloud track, mix, or podcast to an MP3 file you can keep on your device.
Why SoundCloud doesn't let you download for free
Offline listening is a SoundCloud Go feature. The subscription unlocks it across the app. On the free tier, everything is stream-only, which keeps you dependent on a connection and inside the app.
Artists can individually enable downloads on their tracks, but most don't. Even when they do, the download button only appears if you're logged into a SoundCloud account. There's no general way to save tracks on the free tier without a third-party tool.
SaveThat works around this by fetching the audio stream directly and giving you the file as an MP3.
How to convert a SoundCloud track to MP3
Step 1: Copy the SoundCloud track link
Open the track on SoundCloud. Copy the URL from your browser address bar, or tap the Share button on the track and tap Copy Link. The URL looks like soundcloud.com/artist/track-name.
Step 2: Paste into SaveThat
Go to the SoundCloud downloader and paste the link.
Step 3: Download the MP3
Tap the download link. The track saves as an MP3 file. On iPhone it lands in Files, on Android in your Downloads folder. It plays in any music app from there.
Mixes and DJ sets
Long DJ sets posted to SoundCloud don't exist as purchasable files anywhere. You find them on SoundCloud or you don't find them at all. SaveThat handles mixes the same way it handles a regular track. Paste the set URL and the whole thing downloads as a single file.
This is common for DJ mixes, podcast episodes, and long-form radio recordings that only live on SoundCloud. The artist posts it there and never puts it up for sale. If you want it for offline listening, SaveThat is how you get it.
Indie artists and music that's only on SoundCloud
SoundCloud is where a lot of music that never makes it to Spotify or Apple Music lives. Indie producers and bedroom artists post tracks there because it has no gatekeeping. Upload and it's live. That also means you find things on SoundCloud that exist nowhere else.
Tracks get taken down. Artists delete old work when they move on. If you find something you want to keep, saving it is the only way to make sure you still have it later. A streaming link doesn't guarantee the track will be there next year.
